Love and Serve One Another - Day 15

"...and to teach them to love and serve one another..."

So I broke this sentence down into 3 parts. Today being the 2nd of the 3.

How can we actively teach our children that they need to not only love others, but show others that love by serving them as well?

It can be a lot simpler than we think. We could make cookies for a neighbor, pick up trash in the neighborhood, plant some flowers, clean up after our own selves even. If you wanted to go a step above, let your kids serve in a soup kitchen or donate your time at a retirement home.

One of my favorite quotes is, "A candle looses nothing by lighting another."

After your service project, sit down and read Mosiah 2:17 as a family. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."

For our service project, we took the bread that we had made on day 14 and gave it to our pediatrician, who has done so much for our family. I wanted my kids to know that there are lots of ways to say thank you.

Also, there is nothing wrong with helping around the house. Housework should be seen as a service project because we are serving our immediate family. Levi loves to do the "fun" chores, such as mopping, washing windows and vacuuming. He often will do these chores on his own, and he is actually getting good enough at doing them that I don't go back and redo the work....now to teach him to mow the lawn...
